New high speed rail services between Hong Kong and mainland China

Four new high-speed rail services have been added between Hong Kong and cities in mainland China. The new routes to Tianjin, Chongqing, Nanning and Zhaoqing bring the total of direct long haul services up to 17 and the total number of connected destinations 58.

Hong Kong joined China’s high-speed rail network with the opening of the West Kowloon terminal in September 2018 at a cost of nearly US$11 billion. So far passenger numbers have fallen well below government estimates.
