Direct flights to Penang

November 27th, 2024. India’s low-cost carrier, Indigo Airlines, will launch direct flights between Bengaluru and the Malaysian island Langkawi. The Daily service is scheduled to commence on December 16th with flight number 6E 1043 departing Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport at 03:40 and arriving in Langkawi at 10:25.

The return leg, flight number 6E 1044, will take off from Langkawi at 11.25 and land back in Bengaluru at 12:55.

Officially anointed the Jewel of Kedah, Langkawi is a small archipelago around 30 kilometres off the west coast of Peninsula Malaysia and is part of Unesco’s Global Geopark Network. Its three main conservation areas that attract the most visitors are; Machincang Cambrian Geoforest Park, Kilim Karst Geoforest Park, and Dayang Bunting Marble Geoforest Park.

Langkawi also boasts a skybridge at the summit of Gunung Mat Chinchang. A 125-metre walkway through the treetops of the forest 660 metres (2,170 ft) above sea level which can be reached via a cable car

“Langkawi is one of the most popular destinations in Malaysia with its pristine beaches and lush rainforests, and the country’s recent visa waiver for Indian citizens is bound to create greater demand,” said Vinay Malhotra, IndiGo’s Head of Global Sales.

Direct flights to Penang

The airline will also commence direct flights between Chennai and Penang, another popular holiday island in the Strait of Malacca. Penang’s capital, George Town was the capital of the British Straits Settlements, which included Malacca and Singapore, from 1826 until 1832 after which it was supplanted by the latter. Today Georgetown is a bustling city famous for its varied street food and street art.

The new daily service will take off on December 21st with flight number 6E 1045 departing Chennai at 02:15 and arriving in Penang at 08:30. The return journey, flight number 6E 1046, will depart from Penang at 09:30 and touch down again in Chennai at 10:35.
