HK Express connects with Shizuoka

October 24th, 2024. From December 17th HK Express will offer three direct flights a week to Shizuoka making it the Hong Kong carrier’s third new destination in Japan in recent weeks after Hiroshima and Sendai.

Shizuoka is on the south coast of Japan about 145 kilometres southwest of Tokyo. The area is famous for the breathtaking views of Mt Fuji from Miho Masaki Beach but the area also boasts numerous popular hiking trails from short child-friendly strolls such as the Shiraito Falls loop to the challenging Mount Daruma, Kinkan and Darumayama Kogen trail.

Also nearby is the Kunōzan Tōshōgū shrine, the burial place of Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate which ruled Japan from 1603 until the Meiji Restoration in 1868.

The new service will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Flight number UO894 will take off from Hong Kong’s Chek Lap Kok Airport at 09:15 and arrive at Mt Fuji Shizuoka Airport at 13:45.

The return leg, flight number UO865, will depart from Shizuoka at 14:45 and touch down again in Hong Kong at 18:40.

More flights to Japan from Finland

Meanwhile, Finnair has announced that the summer of 2025 will see an increase in the frequency of many of its routes to Asia. The Helsinki to Osaka service will grow from five days a week to a daily service to accommodate travellers to the World Expo 2025 between April and October. The Nagoya route will be bumped up from two to four flights a week and the airline will offer daily flights to both Haneda and Narita airports in Tokyo.

The Helsinki to Shanghai flight will also see an increase from three to four flights a week.
