AirAsia to Chiang Rai

AirAsia has announced the launch of a new Kuala Lumpur to Chiang Rai service. Chiang Rai is in the far north of Thailand close to the infamous Golden Triangle where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet.

Chiang Rai was founded in the thirteen century by King Mangrai and became the capital of the Lanna Kingdom but it was conquered by Burma and remained under Burmese rule for several hundred years. But its best known attractions are the White Temple officially called Wat Rong Khun and the Blue Temple, or Wat Rong Suea Ten, neither of which are ancient.

The new route will take off with three flights a week, Tuesdays, Thursday and saturdays, from November 2nd. Flight AK871 will take off from Kuala Lumpur at 12.25 and land in Chiang Rai at 14.15. The Return leg, AK 872 will depart from Chiang Rai at 14.45 arriving back in Kuala Lumpur at 18.55 (all times local).

To celebrate the launch of the route AirAsia is giving away free seats for Kuala Lumpur to Chiang Rai valid for travel between November 2nd 2024 and February 27th 2025 (one way only, taxes not included).

System Upgrade

The company will be upgrading reservation and passenger-processing systems on July 10th. The upgrade is expected to take about 8 hours starting from 19.00 Malaysia time, until 03.00 on July 11th. If you are flying or have connecting flights on those days AirAsia strongly advises you to self-check in 14 days in advance using the AirAsia MOVE app. Through the app you can download an e-Boarding Pass without needing to print it out at the airport.

It is also recommended to arrive at the airport least three hours before departure for counter check and baggage drop at all airports. Ensure all contact details are up to date in order to receive the latest information or updates about your flight status.
