AirAsia expands in Indonesia
Airline to launch services to Palembang and Semarang
June 18th, 2025. Two new daily services linking Kuala Lumpur with destinations in Indonesia are set to be introduced. The new routes will add Palembang and Semarang to the 11 already in operation from the Malaysian capital.
First on the runway will be a service to Palembang which takes off on July 18th. Palembang is the capital of South Sumatra and was once the centre of the Sriwijaya Empire. The city hugs the banks of the Musi River and boasts a rich history and cultural mix
Flight number AK 462 will depart from Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 09:35 and arrive at Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II International Airport in Palembang at 10:05. The return leg will leave Palembang at 10:30 and land back in Kuala Lumpur at 13:00.
The journey time is 90 minutes each way.
Semarang in September
Semarang is the capital of Central Java. Once an important port city on the north coast. The old town, Kota Lama, boasts many beautifully preserved buildings from the Dutch colonial era. There is also a vibrant Kampung Pelangi, or Rainbow Village and a very impressive National Mosque.
The service will launch on September 5th with flight number AK452 departing from Kuala Lumpur at 09:25 and arriving at Semarang’s Ahmad Yani International Airport at 10:35. The return journey, flight number AK451, will leave Semarang at 11:15 and touch down again in Kuala Lumpur at 14:40.
The outbound journey will be a little over two hours and about two and a half hours for the return.
Both of the above flights will be served by either Airbus A320 or A321 aircraft.
