Two new flights to Japan
October 17th, 2024. Korean Air will resume services to Kumamoto while Hong Kong Airlines will launch a new route to Sendai.
The service from Seoul to Kumamoto was last flown 27 years ago but was shelved during the Asian Financial crisis of 1997. Kumamoto is on the southern island of Kyushu.
Kumamoto Castle is one of the main attractions in the city. It is considered to be one of the three most important castles in the country and although the main tower is a reconstruction several of the old wooden ancillary buildings remain.
There are also several interesting shrines. The Kato Shrine is dedicated to Kato Kiyomasa (1562–1611) who is revered for his skills in construction and civil engineering. He is credited with laying the foundations of modern Kumamoto and devising flood control projects that helped make the land more fertile.
The new service will launch on November 24th with daily flights spread over three different time slots. On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays flight number KE777 will depart from Seoul’s Incheon Airport a 15:50 arriving in Kumamoto at 17:25. On those days the return leg, flight number KE778, will depart Kumamoto at 18:25 arriving back in Seoul at 20:30.
On Wednesdays and Fridays the flight will depart Seoul at 14:15 and arrive at 15:50.It departs again at 16:50 arriving back at 18:50. The Sunday flight departs from Seoul at 16:50 and arrives at 18:20 then departs Kumamoto at 19:20 arriving back in Seoul at 21:20. The flight numbers remain the same for all days.
Hong Kong to Sendai
On December 18th Hong Kong Airlines will be launching a new non-stop flight to Sendai, aka City of Trees in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. The flight will operate three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Flight number HX584 will take off from Hong Kong’s Chek Lap Kok Airport at 09:40 and arrive in Sendai at 14:35.
The return journey, flight number HX585, will depart from Sendai at 15:35 and arrive back in Hong Kong at 20:00.
The airline will also boost services to Sapporo, this winter, increasing its schedule to daily flights and its service to Tokyo’s Narita will be increased to to five flights a day.
