December 3rd, 2025. Juneyao Airlines will launch a three-times-a-week service between Shanghai and Tawau. The flight will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays starting on January 15th.

Tawau is in the south of Malaysia’s Sabah province in North Borneo. It is the gateway to Semporna, which is approximately 75 kilometres from Tawau airport. Semporna and its nearby islands are a popular dive location boasting Tun Sakaran Marine Park, scenic trails and numerous resorts.

Flight number HO1361 will take off from Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport at 14:50 and will touch down at Tawau International Airport at 20:00. The return leg leaves Tawau at 21:00 are lands back in Shanghai at 02:00 the following morning.

An Airbus A320neo will be deployed for the route, and the journey time is about five hours each way.

Tawau to Guangzhou

AirAsia has already linked Tawau with Guangzhou four times a week with departures on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Flight number AK1618 departs from Tawau at 21:30 and arrives at Baiyun International Airport, Guangzhou at 01:15 the following morning. The return trip, flight number AK1617, leaves Guangzhou at 03:30 on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, landing back in Tawau at 07:10.

Airbus A320 aircraft operate the route, and the journey time is about three hours and forty-five minutes in each direction.

Chongqing to Kuala Lumpur

Meanwhile, Sichuan Airlines has earmarked December 18th to launch a service connecting Chongqing with Kuala Lumpur. The flight will operate three times a week, departing on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Flight number 3U3773 will depart from Chongqing’s Jiangbei International Airport at 18:45 and will arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 23:45. The return leg leaves Kuala Lumpur at 00:45, on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and touches down again in Chongqing at 05:05.

The route will be served by Airbus A320 aircraft, and the journey time will be approximately five hours for the outbound flight and 30 minutes less for the return.
