New service links Chongqing and Yangon
Hong Kong Airlines goes to Xi’an
November 18th, 2025. China West Air will be launching a direct service connecting Chongqing with Yangon, the former capital and largest city of Myanmar. The flight will operate twice a week on Mondays and Fridays starting on December 8th.
The city boasts a large number of old buildings from the colonial era, many of which have been renovated. It is also home to some impressive Buddhist structures, such as the Sule Pagoda, the huge Shwedagon Pagoda, the Chaukhtatgyi Buddha Temple, with its reclining Buddha image, and the Botahtaung Pagoda.
Flight number PN6529 will take off from Chongqing’s Jiangbei International Airport at 09:35 and will touch down at Yangon International Airport at 11:20. The return leg, flight number PN6530, will leave Yangon at 12:15 and arrive back in Chongqing at 15:45.
The duration of the outbound flight will be a little over three hours, and about two hours for the return. An Airbus A320 will serve the route.
Hong Kong to Xi’an
Meanwhile, Hong Kong Airlines is resuming its service to Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi province. The city was known as Chang’an for most of its history; it is one of China’s Four Ancient Capitals and home to the world-famous Terracotta Army.
The service will hit the runway on December 18th and run until the end of February. It will initially operate three times a week on Sundays, Thursdays, and Fridays. During the first week of January, it will be reduced to just Sundays and Fridays. Throughout February, it will operate on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
On all days except Fridays, flight number HX418 will depart from Departing from Hong Kong International Airport at 21:40 and arrive at Xianyang International Airport, Xi’an at 01:05 the following morning. The return journey, flight number HX419, leaves Xi’an at 02:50 and arrives back in Hong Kong at 05:45.
On Fridays, the flight’s departure time from Hong Kong will be 22:30, arriving at 01:50 on Saturday morning. The return leg leaves Xi’an at 02:50 and arrives back in Hong Kong at 06:05.
The journey will last about three and a half hours in each direction, and the route will be served by Airbus A320 aircraft.
