Kolkata is the capital of West Bengal and is steeped in history. It grew out of three villages after the British East India Company had been granted a trading license in 1690. The city was the second largest in the British Empire after London and served as the capital of India until the seat of government was moved to New Delhi in 1911.
The city boasts a lot of interesting old architecture but perhaps the most famous is the Queen Victoria Memorial which was built between 1906 and 1921.
Kolkata will be the airline’s 10th destination in India.
