More options for domestic flights in Malaysia

October 31st, 2024. Batik Air has just launched a new service between Kota Bharu and Kuala Lumpur’s Subang Airport. Kota Bharu is in the northeast of Malaysia close to the Thai border. It is also the northern terminal of the East Coast Railway which will link the, as yet, comparatively undeveloped eastern side of the peninsula with Port Klang on the Straits of Malacca. The Railway is scheduled to open in January 2027.

Subang Airport is just to the east of, and a little closer to, Kuala Lumpur. It is also midway between the Malaysian capital and Port Klang making it more convenient for both business and leisure travel.

Flight number OD1235 departs from Kota Bharu’s Sultan Ismail Petra Airport at 16:15 and arrives at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang at 17:20. The return leg, flight number OD1236, takes off from Subang at 18:00 returning to Kota Bharu at 19:05. The sixty-five-minute flight is served by a Boeing 738.

Kuala Lumpur to Alor Setar

The airline is also planning to launch a daily service between Kuala Lumpur and Alor Setar, on the northwest coast, from December 7th. According to the booking information on the website, the flight will have two different time slots.

On Sundays, Thursdays, and Fridays flight number OD1504 will depart for Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 17:30 and arrive in Alor Setar at 18:40. The return journey, flight number OD1505, will leave Alor Setar at 19:30 and touch down again in Kuala Lumpur at 20:40.

On all other days, flight number OD1502 will depart from Kuala Lumpur at 07:50 and arrive in Alor Setar at 09:00. It departs again as flight number OD1503 at 09:40 to arrive back in Kuala Lumpur at 10:50.
