Jin Air links Busan with Ulaanbaatar
Fits flies to Kuala Lumpur
April 10th, 2025. South Korea’s low-cost carrier Jin Air is to launch a new route between Busan and Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. The service will operate three times a week, on Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays, starting on May 22nd.
Ulaanbaatar sits about 1,300 metres above sea level in the Tuul River valley. It was first established in 1639 as a Buddhist monastery for nomadic monks. It changed its location numerous times but eventually became permanently settled in 1778 along an old caravan route, across the Gobi Desert, between Beijing and Kyakhta. The city has a population of just 1.6 million and is recognised as the coldest capital city in the world based on average annual temperatures.
Flight number LJ781 will depart from Busan’s Gimhae International Airport at 21:40 and will touch down at Chinggis Khaan International Airport, Ulaanbaatar at 00:30 the next morning. The return leg, flight number LJ782, will take off from Ulaanbaatar at 01:50 and will arrive back in Busan at 06:10.
The airline will deploy a Boeing 737-800 aircraft and the flight times are three hours and fifty minutes for the outbound journey, half an hour less for the return.
Colombo to Kuala Lumpur
Meanwhile, FitsAir, a low-cost airline based in Sri Lanka has launched flights between the country’s capital, Colombo, and Kuala Lumpur. The service operates four times with two different time slots.
On Sundays and Wednesdays flight number 8D723 takes off from Colombo’s Bandaranaike International Airport at 11:50 and arrives at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 18:15. The return leg, flight number 8D724, departs at 19:15 and arrives back in Colombo at 20:30.
On Mondays and Fridays flight number 8D721 departs from Colombo at 09:05 and arrives in Kuala Lumpur at 15:30. The return journey, flight number 8D722, leaves Kuala Lumpur at 16:30 and lands back in Colombo at 17:35.
The flight will be served by Airbus A320 aircraft. The duration is a little under three hours and fifty-five minutes for the outbound flight about 15 minutes less for for return.
*I always check each airline’s website to confirm reservations are open but the sites of both Jin Air and FitsAir were experiencing technical issues at the time of writing. Skyscanner was, however, able to find several agents that were offering both flights.
