New link between Shanghai and Kumamoto

May 12th, 2025. Starting on June 5th South Korean low-cost carrier, Jeju Air, will launch a service linking Seoul with Hakodate at the southern end of Japan’s Hokkaido island.

The city lays at the foot of the picturesque Mount Hakodate which sits at the very end of the peninsula. Millions of years ago the mountain was a free-standing island but over time a sand bar emerged fusing it with the main island. Today a cable car offers rides to the top where there are stunning views over the city, a popular attraction at night.

Hakodate port was one of the first to open to foreign trade after the Treaty of Amity and Commerce was signed in 1858. The Motomachi district still boasts some early-20th-century, western-style architecture.

Flights will initially operate three times a week on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. From July 1st a fourth flight will be added on Saturdays

Flight number 7C1513 will take off from Seoul’s Incheon Airport at 13:45 and will arrive at Hakodate Airport at 16:20. The return journey, flight number 7C1514, will leave Hakodate at 17:20 and land back in Seoul at 20:25.

A Boeing 737-800 aircraft will operate the route which will take around two and a half hours for the outward flight and three hours for the return
