Capital of the Khmer Empire
Angkor was the capital of the Khmer Empire. It is located in what is now Northwest Cambodia but at its height, between the eleventh and fifteenth centuries, it ruled over a vast area that included parts of what are now Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Myanmar.
Its prime attractions are the ruins which are spread over more than 400 square kilometres the centrepiece of which is the stunning Ankor Wat. The area also includes the Bayon with its serene faces of the Buddha gazing out in all directions, and the atmospheric Ta Prohm with its gnarled tree roots.
“Since we launched services in early May 2024, we are witnessing strong demand and significant opportunities for growth in a number of key international markets. Singapore is the start of a number of new destinations we are keen to launch soon including the potential of a direct route linking Phnom Penh to Singapore,” said AirAsia Cambodia’s CEO, Vissoth Nam.
AirAsia Cambodia’s domestic network links Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville. Its first international service was launched on August 1st between Phnom Penh and Kuala Lumpur.
