Routes from Hong Kong to Kunming and Urumqi open for reservations
July 3rd, 2026. Hong Kong’s Greater Bay Airlines has added Kunming to its timetable. Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province, is nicknamed the City of Eternal Spring thanks to its year-round mild climate. Though at an altitude of 1,900 metres, it can get chilly, especially in winter.
The service will launch on September 3rd and operate three times a week, on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, but there will be a different time slot for each day.
On Sundays, flight number HB836 will take off from Hong Kong International Airport at 08:10 and will land in Kunming Changshui International Airport at 10:40; Tuesdays departure will be at 09:05, arriving at 11:45; and Thursdays at 07:25, arriving at 09:55.
The return journeys, flight number HB837, will depart from Kunming at 12:00 on Sundays, 12:40 on Tuesdays, and 10:55 on Thursdays, and land back in Hong Kong at 14:20, 14:55, and 13:15 respectively.
A Boeing 737-800 aircraft has been earmarked for the route, and the flight time will be approximately two and a half hours in each direction.
Hong Kong to Urumqi
A new seasonal route to Urumqi has been lined up by Hong Kong Airlines. The service is listed to operate between August 29th and October 21st and will operate twice a week.
Flight number HX456 will depart from Hong Kong at 18:35 on Tuesdays and Saturdays and land at Tianshan International Airport, Urumqi at 01:15 the next morning. The return leg, flight number HX457, will depart from Urumqi at 02:15 and arrive back in Hong Kong at 07:30.
The duration of the outbound journey will be six hours and forty minutes, and the return will be about five hours and fifteen minutes. An Airbus A330-300 aircraft will serve the flight.
