AirAsia to launch service between Johor Bahru and Kunming
November 12th, 2025. Starting on December 21st, Kazakhstan’s Scat Airlines will introduce a direct service linking Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic and Sanya on the southern coast of China’s tropical Hainan Island.
The area is a popular tourist destination with numerous international hotels as well as nature reserves, and occasionally, rare Chinese white dolphins.
The flight will operate every Sunday with flight number DV481 departing from Sanya’s Phoenix International Airport at 08:05 and arriving in Václav Havel Airport, Prague at 15:20. The return leg, flight number DV482, leaves Prague at 16:50 and touches down again in Sanya at 12:30 the following day.
The westbound flight is scheduled to last a little over fourteen hours, the return, a little under thirteen hours. Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft will serve the route.
Johor Bahru to Kunming
AirAsia will be introducing a service between Johor Bahru and Kunming starting on December 14th. The flight will operate three times a week, departing on Sundays, Mondays, and Wednesdays.
Kunming sits at 1,900 metres above sea level and is the capital of China’s Yunnan province. It is an important centre for scientific research and boasts several universities.
“We are not just growing our network,” said the airline’s CEO, Captain Fareh Mazputra, “we are redefining Malaysia’s connectivity within the region to the world. The launch of this new Johor Bahru-Kunming route marks our commitment to expanding beyond Kuala Lumpur and strengthening key regional hubs across the country.”
Flight number AK1380 will take off from Senai International Airport, in Johor Bahru, at 21:20 and will arrive at Kunming’s Changshui International Airport at
01:25 the next morning. The return leg, flight number AK1381, will leave Kunming at 02:30 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and arrive back in Johor at 06:45.
The journey time will be a little over four hours in each direction, and the aircraft will likely be an Airbus A320.
