New flights to Pontianak
Spring to launch Shanghai to Kuala Lumpur service
August 1st, 2025. AirAsia is resuming services to Pontianak for the first time since 2020. Pontianak is the capital of Indonesia’s West Kalimantan province on the island of Borneo. Located in the Kapuas River delta, it was both a fishing village and a trading port. The city center sits about three kilometres south of the Equator.
The airline has lined up flights from both Kuala Lumpur and Kuching.
The Kuala Lumpur service will launch on October 26th and will operate four times a week on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Flight number AK492 takes off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 11:15 and arrives at Pontianak’s Supadio International Airport at 12:05. The return journey, flight number AK491, leaves Pontianak at 12:30 and arrives back in Kuala Lumpur at 15:10.
The flight will be served by Airbus A320 aircraft, and the journey time is a little under two hours in each direction.
From Kuching, the airline will operate two flights daily.
The morning service, flight number AK1781, takes off from Kuching International Airport at 09:05 and touches down in Pontianak at 08:55. It returns to Kuching as flight number AK1782, departing from Pontianak at 09:20 and landing back in Kuching at 11:05.
Flight number AK1783 is the evening service which leaves Kuching at 19:20 and arrives in Pontianak at 19:05. The return leg, flight number AK1784, takes off from Pontianak at 19:30 and lands back in Kuching at 21:15.
The flight duration will be around fifty minutes, and Airbus A320 aircraft will serve the route.
Spring to introduce Shanghai to Kuala Lumpur service
Commencing on December 1st, Shanghai-based Spring Airlines will launch a daily service connecting the Chinese city with Kuala Lumpur.
Flight number 9C6523 will take off from Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport at 11:00 and arrive in Kuala Lumpur at 16:55. The return leg, flight number 9C6524, will depart from Kuala Lumpur at 17:55 and land back in Shanghai at 23:15.
The outward flight duration will be about six hours, and about half an hour less for the return. The route will be served by Airbus A320 aircraft.
