Greater Bay Airlines to the Vietnamese resort, Cathay Pacific to S. Australia
July 1st, 2025. Greater Bay Airlines will be launching a scheduled service between Hong Kong and Phu Quoc starting on October 27th. The new service will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, replacing what had been a seasonal service previously.
Phu Quoc is a popular holiday island just to the west of the southern tip of Vietnam, It is the country’s largest island, a little less the 50 kilometres from north to south and about half that at its widest point. The island boasts good hiking as well as white sand beaches and resorts.
Flight number HB520 will take off from Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok at 16:00 and arrive at Phu Quoc Airport at 18:00. The return leg, flight number HB521 departs from Phu Quoc at 19:00 and arrive back in Hong Kong at 22:50.
The flight duration is about three hours in each direction and will be served by Boeing 737 aircraft.
Cathay to Adelaide
Hong Kong’s flag carrier, Cathay Pacific, will be resuming its seasonal non-stop flights to South Australia starting on November 11th. The service will operate three times a week with departures on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
“With our return to Adelaide, we will be operating close to 90 return flights per week to eight destinations in the Southwest Pacific at the peak of this winter season, providing a great many choices for our customers travelling between the region and our home hub,” said Lavinia Lau, Cathay’s chief customer and commercial officer,
Flight number CX173 will depart from Hong Kong at 23:30 and will land at Adelaide International Airport at 10:30 the following morning. The return journey, flight number CX174, will leave Adelaide at 12:00 and touch down again in Hong Kong at 17:40.
The flight will be served by Airbus A350-900 aircraft and the journey time will be approximately eight and a half hours.
