Batik Air’s new routes to Southern Thailand

October 3rd, 2024. Malaysia’s Batik Air has launched two new services between Kuala Lumpur and southern Thailand. Both routes will be served by Boeing 737-800s.

Flight number OD586 is a daily service to Krabi. It leaves Kuala Lumpur at 12:25 and lands in Krabi at 12:50 local time. The flight duration is approximately 85 minutes. The return leg, flight number OD587, takes off from Krabi at 13:50 and arrives back in Kuala Lumpur at 16:25.

The other service is between Kuala Lumpur and Hat Yai. Flight number OD588 departs from Kuala Lumpur daily at 12:00 and lands in Hat Yai at 12:15 local time, after a 75-minute flight.

Flight OD588 departs Kuala Lumpur (KUL) at 12:00, arriving in Hat Yai at 12:15 local time. The return journey, flight number OD589, leaves Hat Yai at 13:05 and lands back in Kuala Lumpur at 15:25.

Don Mueang to Lampang

Thai AirAsia has launched a new domestic route between Don Mueang and Lampang. Flight FD3923 takes off from Don Mueang Airport Bangkok at 11:10 and arrives in Lampang at 12:20. The return leg, flight number FD3924, departs from Lampang at 12:50 and lands back in Bangkok at 14:05.

Nakhon Lampang is about 75 kilometres southeast of Chiang Mai and is the capital of Lampang province. The town straddles the Wang River, a major tributary of the Chao Phraya, and is separated from Chiang Mai by the Doi Khun Tan National Park. It was a major city in the Lanna Kingdom which was centred in what is now northern Thailand between the thirteenth and eighteenth centuries.

As a tourist destination, it is very much in the shadow of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai though it is now without its attractions. Most famous is Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, a lovely wooden temple built in the Lanna style around 1476 and is believed to be the oldest wooden structure in the country.
