Two new routes for AirAsia

September 5th, 2024. AirAsia continues to expand services with new flights from its second hub at Kota Kinabalu to the southern Taiwan city of Kaohsiung, and from Kuala Lumpur to Labuan Bajo.

The airline will operate four flights per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays starting from November 17th. Flight AK1506 will take off from Kota Kinabalu at 08:20 and arrive in Kaohsiung at 11:15. The return flight, number AK1507, leaves Kaohsiung at 12:10 and lands back in Kota Kinabalu at 15:10.

Kaohsiung, originally named Takau, was founded in the seventeenth century as a small trading post. It has since grown to become Taiwan’s major port handling more than two-thirds of its container throughput. It is also a key industrial centre boasting steel oil and shipbuilding. The city has also been growing its tourism industry with new arts and music centres as well as museums.

AirAsia has also just launched direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Labuan Bajo in Indonesia’s East Nusa Tenggara. The service will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Flight number AK 336 will depart from Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 10:50 and arrive at Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo at 14:30. The return flight, number AK 336, will leave Labuan Bajo at 14:55 and land back in Kuala Lumpur at 18:35.

Labuan Bajo is a small fishing village but has grown in importance as a tourist centre thanks to its proximity to the islands of Komodo and Rinca, home of the famous Komodo dragons.

But there is more to the area than giant lizards. There are numerous resorts with diving, trekking and kayaking opportunities. The Unesco World Heritage village of Wae Rebo, with its cone-shaped houses, is a five-hour drive, followed by a short hike, away
