September 11, 2024. Ho Chi Minh City is set to become the sixteenth international destination operating out of AirAsia’s Kota Kinabalu hub. The service will operate three days a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays taking off on December 3rd. The outward journey, flight number AK1630, will depart Kota Kinabalu at 11:45 and arrive at Ho Chi Minh’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport at 12:55. The return flight, number AK1631 will leave Ho Chi Minh at 13:25 arriving back at Kota Kinabalu at 16:35.

Often still called by its old name of Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City is the beating heart of Southern Vietnam. The name change was first proposed in 1946 but wasn’t formally adopted until July 2nd, 1976. to honour the reunited country’s leader. Since the US embargo was lifted in 1994 the city has developed at a frantic pace pace and now boasts a mix of modern malls and trendy coffee shops.

All change to Don Mueang

Thai AirAsia X will be relocating all its flights back to Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport from October 1st. The idea is that it will allow for seamless connections across the Thai AirAsia network.

“Thai AirAsia X guests will definitely find our relocation to Don Mueang a perfect move as it provides for greater convenience and seamlessness to connect to the city as well to other AirAsia destinations in Thailand and across the region,” said Thai AirAsia CEO Tassapon Bijleveld.

The airline currently operates seven routes out of Bangkok, including Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo, and Nagoya in Japan, Seoul in South Korea, Shanghai in China, and Sydney in Australia.
